Dais cotinifolia
Planted about 11years ago this tree produced 1 little pom pom flower last year.
This year we seem to have been luckier, we have about 6 flowers.
Not really suited to coastal areas but more an inland forest lover I presume this is the reason for poor flowering ability.
In full bloom in correct area this tree is magnificent - resembling one big pink pom pom - and smells like marshmallows!!

Barringtonia racemosa

The most beautiful Powder Puff Tree or Barringtonia racemosa.
A mangrove - usually found in coastal swamp areas and along rivers, but not able to tolerate high saline levels.
I planted this one about 10 years ago at the entrance of our driveway - I never water it!!
Produces flowers about 9 months of the year.
There are masses of long brackets just smothered in pink powder puffs that float to the ground early morning.
Flowers look so lovely placed in a bowl of water.

The first one is a bad boy - the cotton stainer  he feeds on developing seeds of the Baobab and related families, but his colouring is rather beautiful, and doesnt do any damage in my garden
